About

This is the first Sushi! Sake! Sumo! event in Portland. With your help and support, we hope to make this event an annual fundraiser for the organization. Not only is Sushi! Sake! Sumo! a fun party with live music, sumo wrestling, food and drinks, but more importantly it offers young philanthropic Portlanders an exciting opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.

Sushi! Sake! Sumo! is presented by the PDX CANswer Project, which is a volunteer-driven membership-based organization of young philanthropic Oregon residents who range in age from 22 to 40. Our members share in the belief that cancer will be eliminated in our lifetime and that through our ongoing fundraising efforts, cancer will no longer threaten the lives of those we love.

The financial support of the PDX CANswer Project allows the American Cancer Society & ACS CAN to continue its contributions to national research efforts, local, statewide and national advocacy efforts, education about prevention and early detection, and support for the more than 19,000 Oregonians who will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
The cancer battle touches all of us –whether through our own experience or that of our families, friends, and colleagues. Given the reach of this disease, it takes all of us together to fund the critical work that will ultimately defeat it.

◦ 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in his or her lifetime.
◦ At least half of all cancer deaths in America could be avoided if we stopped using tobacco, made use of cancer screening tests, reduced levels of obesity, and improved nutrition and physical activity.
◦ The American Cancer Society is the largest nongovernmental funder of cancer research, investing over $3.1 billion since 1946.
◦ 42 American Cancer Society funded researchers have won the Nobel Prize.
